From 1 April 2025 the LSFRI "Silava" has launched six postdoctoral research projects under the European Union Cohesion Policy Programme 2021–2027. The projects are implemented within the framework of Specific Support Objective 1.1.1 "Strengthening research and innovation capacity and the introduction of advanced technologies into the overall research and development system", under Measure 1.1.1.9 "Postdoctoral Research".
Young scientists will be conducting research in the following areas:
- Ieva Līcīte: Carbon market-based mechanisms as climate neutrality system tool to promote the development of the bioeconomy sector in Latvia.
- Santa Kalēja: Development of a prototype system for detecting and characterizing deformations in gravel forest roads.
- Oskars Krišāns: A solution for reducing wind damage risk in uneven-aged management of Scots pine stands in the Eastern Baltic region.
- Kristaps Makovskis: Elaboration of tools for assessment of biodiversity and carbon turnover in long-term fast-growing woody crop (Populus spp., Salix psp., Alnus incana) plantations under different land use and climate scenarios.
- Laura Ķēniņa: Assessment of structural dynamics and biodiversity composition of hemiboreal old-growth forests to advance closer-to-nature management.
- Agrita Žunna: Ensuring the ecological functions of the harvested grey wolf population in managed forests.
Postdoctoral research is promoted to strengthen the competencies of young scientists and promote the development of innovative and sustainable solutions in forest science.
