European Union's Cohesion Policy Programme for 2021–2027, Activity 1.1.1.9 "Post-doctoral Research" of the Specific Objective 1.1.1 "Strengthening research and innovative capacities and introduction of advanced technologies in the common R&D system" of the research application No 1.1.1.9/LZP/1/24/107
The year-round accessibility of gravel forest roads, regardless of weather conditions, plays an important role in several economic sectors. The quality of forestry activities, management, and recreation is closely linked to forest roads. Deformations of gravel forest roads affect both the accessibility of resources, fuel consumption, as well as lead to additional maintenance costs. The aim of the research is to develop a prototype of system for determining and characterization the deformation of gravel forest roads.
To achieve the research objective, it is planned to ensure the fulfillment of the following work tasks:
- Analyze the legal framework, monitoring methodologies and management practices of gravel forest roads in Latvia
- Evaluate sensing solutions for determining deformations of forest roads with gravel cover.
- Carry out an assessment of socio-economic benefits.
The development of the prototype will support the effective maintenance of gravel forest roads and reduce their deterioration, thus promoting an innovative approach to more efficient resource use in the forest sector.
