Study supported by the Forest Development Fund (agreement No. 26-00-S0MF01-000001)

The National Nature Restoration Plan is a tool for implementing and executing the Nature Restoration Regulation (2024/1991) and its included directives, aiming to identify and implement measures to improve, maintain, and protect the natural capital of various ecosystems. Identifying and analyzing the current baseline levels of the 7 forest ecosystem indicators included in the draft regulation, as well as the gradual improvement of these values (including monitoring) until a satisfactory level of these indicators is achieved, constitutes the obligation of each European Union Member State.
The aim of the Study is to develop proposals for measures to enhance the biodiversity of forest ecosystems, utilizing the indicators set forth in Regulation (EU) 2024/1991 of the European Parliament and of the Council on nature restoration and amending Regulation (EU) 2022/869.
The study will evaluate the availability and comparability of data across the EU required to calculate three specific indicators under the EU Nature Restoration Law: the share of forests with an uneven-aged structure, forest connectivity, and tree species diversity, as well as examine their linkages to regulatory frameworks and forestry practices. Proposals for the National Nature Restoration Plan's measures have been prepared to enhance forest biodiversity, thereby facilitating the progression of the designated indicators toward a satisfactory level.
