On December 11, 2019, the European Commission (EC) issued the statement "European green deal". Based on the European Green Agreement (20.05.20200, the EC launched a communication on the "EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030". In addition to strongly protecting all remaining primeval and ancient forests in the EU, the EU needs to increase the area, quality and resilience of its forests, especially against fires, drought, pests, diseases and other threats that could increase under climate change. 16/07/2021 The European Commission launched a communication COM(2021) on the "New EU Forest Strategy for 2030", which is rooted in the European "Green Deal" and the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030, and recognizes the important and multifunctional role of forests and the contribution of foresters and the entire forest resource value chain to a sustainable and climate-neutral economy by 2050 impact both on society as a whole and also, including, on the forest sector.
The aim of the Study is to contribute to the implementation of the European Union's Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and the application of the European Commission's (EC) "Guidelines for forestry closer to nature" to Latvian conditions.
